C Programming in easy steps has an easy-to-follow style that will appeal to anyone who wants to begin programming in C, from programmers moving from another programming language, to the student who is studying C programming at school or college, or to those seeking a career in computing who need a fundamental understanding of procedural programming. C Programming in easy steps begins by explaining how to download and install a free C compiler so that you can quickly begin to create your own executable programs by copying the book's examples. You need have no previous knowledge of any programming language so it's ideal for the newcomer to computer programming. Each chapter builds your knowledge of C. C Programming in easy steps contains separate chapters on the major features of the C language. There are complete example programs that demonstrate each aspect of C together with screenshots that illustrate the output when that program has been executed. The sample code provided all has colored syntax-highlighting for clearer understanding. By the end of this book you will have gained a sound understanding of the C language and be able to write your own C programs and compile them into executable files that can be run on any compatible computer. Fully updated and revised since the third edition, which was published in April 2009. Table of Contents 1) Getting started 2) Storing variable values 3) Setting constant values 4) Performing operations 5) Making statements 6) Employing functions 7) Pointing to data 8) Manipulating strings 9) Building structures 10) Producing results Reference Section

C is the most versatile of programming languages. It has caused a number of innovations in the areas of software and Information Technology, and is the forerunner to a new programming paradigm, the OOT, the major derivative of which is the graphical user interface which has tremendously simplified the use of computers. C has led to many path-breaking developments in the field of computer science, such as vibrant social media, e-commerce, e-banking, mobile banking, cloud computing, Internet of Things, and Big Data Analytics. Learning of C, thus, is of tremendous use to every programmer. The learner only needs to follow a step-by-step process with one step at a time, so as to absorb its tenets easily—exactly the approach this book has followed. Over the years, this book has helped thousands of aspirants in developing their career in the language. The second edition has made it compatible with the latest revisions to C Standards. It also covers the significant differences between C90, C99 and C11, including all the language features and library functions added in C99 and C11. NEW IN THE SECOND EDITION • Virtually rewritten text to suit contemporary needs • All revisions to C Standards carried out in 1999 and 2011 • A new chapter on multithreading • A separate chapter on strings carved out for proper focus

The aim of this book is to introduce the Unix command line interface to users. Unix originally supported only a command line interface. Though most Unix systems now support GUI interfaces, all are based on the original command line interface. Many people still find it easier to use the command line for operations. Instead of trying to figure out how to click through a GUI interface to do a certain task, you just have to type a few words. The focus of this book is on users, describing user tools and applications for the command line, not administration tasks. The text is organized to carefully introduce you to Unix without overwhelming you with a mass of commands and programs. In Section 1, you learn how to get started using the command line interface. In Sections 2 and 3, you learn essential features of Unix needed to perform everyday tasks such as file management and shell operations. Together, Sections 1, 2, and 3 form a core level of understanding that you need to have in order to successfully work with Unix. Sections 4, 5, and 6 consist of topics that you can select depending on your needs, such as data and edit filters, awk programming, email, Ftp access, and editors.

Motivation It is now possible to build powerful single-processor and multiprocessor systems and use them efficiently for data processing, which has seen an explosive ex pansion in many areas of computer science and engineering. One approach to meeting the performance requirements of the applications has been to utilize the most powerful single-processor system that is available. When such a system does not provide the performance requirements, pipelined and parallel process ing structures can be employed. The concept of parallel processing is a depar ture from sequential processing. In sequential computation one processor is in volved and performs one operation at a time. On the other hand, in parallel computation several processors cooperate to solve a problem, which reduces computing time because several operations can be carried out simultaneously. Using several processors that work together on a given computation illustrates a new paradigm in computer problem solving which is completely different from sequential processing. From the practical point of view, this provides sufficient justification to investigate the concept of parallel processing and related issues, such as parallel algorithms. Parallel processing involves utilizing several factors, such as parallel architectures, parallel algorithms, parallel programming lan guages and performance analysis, which are strongly interrelated. In general, four steps are involved in performing a computational problem in parallel. The first step is to understand the nature of computations in the specific application domain.
