Maire is a baker with an extraordinary gift: she can infuse her treats with emotions and abilities, which are then passed on to those who eat them. She doesn t know why she can do this and remembers nothing of who she is or where she came from. When marauders raid her town, Maire is captured and sold to the eccentric Allemas, who enslaves her and demands that she produce sinister confections, including a witch s gingerbread cottage, a living cookie boy, and size-altering cakes. During her captivity, Maire is visited by Fyel, a ghostly being who is reluctant to reveal his connection to her. The more often they meet, the more her memories return, and she begins to piece together who and what she really is as well as past mistakes that yield cosmic consequences. From the author of The Paper Magician series comes a haunting and otherworldly tale of folly and consequence, forgiveness and redemption."

In Through Wolf's Eyes, Jane Lindskold introduced Firekeeper, the young girl raised by intelligent, language-using wolves. Abducted back into human society, Firekeeper found that, in the world of deadly human political intrigues, her training as a pack animal served her well. Later, in Wolf Captured, Firekeeper and her lupine companion Blind Seer found themselves kidnapped and dragged overseas, to the unfamiliar land of Liglimon, where humans have a different relationship to intelligent animals. Now, still in Liglimon, Firekeeper and Blind Seer respond to a request for assistance from Truth, the soothsayer-jaguar. Then, while helping Truth, Firekeeper and her companion come across evidence of elaborate investigations into kinds of ancient magics taboo in Liglimoshti culture. It appears more people in Liglimon are willing to flout this taboo than anyone cares to admit, and Firekeeper and Blind Seer decide their duty is to find out more. But Truth knows more than she's telling. She can see and trace future timelines for particular individuals, which in the past has led her into madness. Since then, the Voice that guided her out of that madness has continued to speak to her, and it's not her friend. Eventually Truth realizes that her Voice may well be a person the Liglimoshti call "The Meddler" -- a dangerous trickster figure. But Truth doesn't own up to this until far too late... Compellingly told, rich with real people and real animals, WOLF HUNTING is the latest and strongest in an increasingly and rewarding sequence of fantasy epics. "Now in paper For The first time, Bitter Music is a generous volume of writings by one of the twentieth century's great musical iconoclasts. Rejecting the equal temperament and concert traditions that have dominated western music, Harry Partch adopted the pure intervals of just intonation and devised a 43-tone-to-the-octave scale, which in turn forced him into inventing numerous musical instruments. His compositions realize his ideal of a corporeal music that unites music, dance, and theater. Winner of the ASCAP-Deems Taylor Award, Bitter Music includes two journals kept by Partch, one while wandering the West Coast during the Depression And The other while hiking the rugged northern California coastline. it also includes essays and discussions by Partch of his own compositions, As well as librettos and scenarios for six major narrative/dramatic compositions."

If the witches refuse, their covens will be destroyed, including Horngate, the place Max has grudgingly come to think of as home. Max thinks she can find a way to help Horngate stand against the Guardians, but doing so will mean forging dangerous alliances -- including one with a rival witch's Shadowblade, who is as drawn to Max as she is to him -- and standing with the witch she despises. Max will have to choose between the old life she still dreams of and the warrior she has become, and take her place on the side of right -- if she survives long enough to figure out which side that is....

Just like any other normal red-blooded and healthy child, I loved getting grimy and dirty, rooting about in the garden when young. And I was fortunate to have elders around me, who positively enjoyed encouraging us kids to go out and play in the dirt and sun, instead of wrapping us up in cotton wool and clucking in concern when we got dirty and scrubby. Luckily, my father always used to be transferred to out of the way mountain fastnesses and other forest laden places, where there was plenty of space to make really huge gardens – flowers and vegetables, with plenty of sun, water, and rich organic soil. That was the time when people did not bother about spraying every single plant surface with poisonous pesticides. So naturally, the habit of digging my fingers deep into rich soil continued when I grew up. But that was when I found out, that the world consisted of places, where you could not manage to have huge gardens outdoors. As adults, it was possible that you would spend most of your time living in cooped up flats like pigeons or doves in their cotes. So it was natural, that I began to look for other ways and means, in which I could grow my own kitchen garden in those limited areas. And so I began kitchen gardening on the roof. But if you have a large backyard, so much the better. Remember, a kitchen garden is a thing of beauty and a joy forever. You are going to get fresh fruit and vegetables, throughout the year. You have the pleasure of making something outdoors. You do not have to restrict your kitchen garden to just vegetables – you can also plant herbs, and even flowers. My kitchen garden has sunflowers, marigolds, Gladiolus, and even roses.
